Copywriting

Brochures, adverts, websites, annual reports, direct mail, press releases, packaging, newsletters. Whatever you need the words for I can write, edit or proofread them! Whether it’s reams of copy for a brochure, rewording just one paragraph or proofreading a flier before it goes to print.

Below are the answers to some of the questions you might have about my copywriting service. You can either read from top to bottom or click on the relevant question to get straight to the answer.

Or, if you'd prefer to have a chat to find out more, give me a call on 0113 2750 464 or 07779 233 594, or send me an email.

Why use a professional copywriter?

We can all write, but can you find the right words or the time to write them?

Maybe you're not even sure what you want to say, but you know who you want to speak to and what you want to persuade them to do?

Perhaps you've written some copy but it needs to be more grammatically correct, flow better or be more emotive or concise.

Nothing blurs a message more than longwinded, badly written, jargon-filled copy. We're all inundated with information so it's vital that what you say captures your audience immediately and is easily understood.

Handover the writing to someone else and you can concentrate on other aspects of your job or business. You'll undoubtedly save time, stress and even money and be much happier with the end result.

Why choose Room 53?

I've been writing fresh, engaging copy since 1997. I've written everything from creative consumer campaigns to technical business articles and from persuasive direct mail to informative guides.

It doesn't matter that I don't know about keyhole surgery, trends for pampered pooches, services for the elderly or anything else about which you might need copy written.

What matters is that I can get right to the core of what you want to achieve, assimilate the relevant information (however complex or specialised) and write copy that's usually right first time.

Most importantly, I can do all this quickly.

What kind of copywriting do you do?

I've written copy for a wide variety of clients, including fluffy consumer campaigns, straight talking business projects and complex technical pieces.

Typically, I work on the following types of project:

Can you help with design & production?

Yes. Generally, I supply copy only, but I work with several designers and experts in print and production. I can either recommend people for you to work with direct or manage the whole project so that you only deal with me.

How does it work?

This is how it works if I'm supplying copy only. Obviously there are more stages involved if you need help with design and production too.

The beginning

The first step is for me to find out exactly what you want to achieve: who you want to speak to, the messages you want to convey, the tone and style that you want and what you want your audience to do next.

You might be really organised and have a written brief. Most clients don't. It doesn't matter how vague you are, or even if you're not sure what you want – it's my job to ask the right questions so that I obtain the right information and can advise you if appropriate.

The middle

Next, I'll collect all the relevant information. This may be via me conducting interviews or doing research or by you supplying material.

I'll then prepare a first draft and supply it to you for review, giving you the opportunity to make amends or comments. I know that when copy is needed, it's usually needed quickly so I always endeavour to turn work around as quickly as possible.

The end

I'll incorporate any amends and check that the copy still flows, is in the same tone of voice and is grammatically correct (unless grammatical errors fit better with the style, of course) and supply another draft for approval. This process continues until you're entirely happy with the copy, although it rarely takes more than a couple of drafts and is most often right first time.

I can remain involved in the project right to the very end, proofreading the copy once it is typeset before printing or publishing to ensure there are no typesetting or layout errors.

Do we need to meet?

No. Many of my clients have become good friends who I see regularly, but I've never met or even spoken to some of my clients (that's not to say we're not friendly though!) and they're spread throughout the UK, Europe and the Middle East. We converse by telephone, email and even fax or post occasionally.

As long as you need me to write in English, and can supply the information in English, it doesn't matter where in the world you're based.

How much does it cost?

The cost depends on the complexity of the project. Once I have a clear idea of what you need and how much work will be involved I can give you a quote for the job.

Who have you written for?

I've written copy for consumer and youth brands, blue chip corporations, charities, public sector organisations, leisure venues, media owners and small start-ups.

These include Puma, Bacardi Breezer, Britvic, Crosby Homes, Hagen Petcare, Pollards, Shape yogurt, Silentnight Beds, Yazoo, Yorkshire Cancer Research and many, many more.
